Heat-sealable lidding film for trays

Reel film for closing trays with a tray sealer: it seals hermetically, shows the product and extends its shelf life.

Heat-sealable lidding film is the film that closes the top of the tray. The tray sealer lays it over the tray flange and, with heat and pressure, fuses it to the flange to form a hermetic seal. That seal is what prevents leaks, protects the product from outside contamination and, when working with modified atmosphere, keeps in the gas mixture that extends shelf life. That is why the film is not an accessory: a large part of how long the product lasts on the shelf depends on it.

Our film is designed for food packaging and offers excellent transparency, so the product can be seen clearly through the seal. It is a strong material that stands up to handling without tearing and keeps the contents fresh. It is supplied on a reel to be mounted directly on the tray sealer.

There is no universal lidding film. It is made in different thicknesses and compositions depending on the application, and the choice depends on three things: the tray material, because the sealing layer has to be compatible with it; the product, because cut fruit does not need the same as a meat product or a ready meal; and the process, because conventional sealing and sealing under modified atmosphere, where a composition with a gas barrier is usually needed, call for different films.

The film, the tray and the machine are chosen together. The tray flange has to be flat and even, and the reel width has to match your tray sealer. We supply all three: sealable plastic trays, the semi-automatic modified atmosphere tray sealer for short runs, the LS-975 for medium output and the automatic LS-1375 for high in-line output. That way, the sealing test is carried out with the real set-up before start-up.

Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team of more than 30 years in the sector, helps you choose the right film for your tray and your product. Thickness, composition, reel width and compatibility with your machine are confirmed with our sales team.
