Tree guard

The first years of a plantation are the most delicate. The young plant has a thin trunk and tender bark, and anything can hold it back or kill it: wind that shakes it, a frost, a rabbit gnawing the bark or a knock from a brush cutter. The guard is a tube that surrounds the trunk and shields it from those threats while the tree becomes established, improving the success rate of the plantation.

We supply two polypropylene models with different approaches. The solid sheet model is a white tube of tough polypropylene, with solid pigments that resist light and weathering and with anti-UV additives so the material does not degrade in the sun. Its main function is to protect against wind and frost. It is made in heights of 35, 50 and 60 cm, with a diameter of 11 cm.

The mesh model, in blue, is made of tough, flexible polypropylene, with a mesh structure that allows proper ventilation and lets light reach the trunk. It protects young trees against wind, animals and mechanical damage, and encourages faster, more even growth of the plant. It has pigments resistant to weathering and solar radiation, installs quickly and easily with a stake and is available in heights of 50 and 60 cm.

Which to choose? If the main risk is the climate, with wind and frost, the solid sheet tube creates a more enclosed environment around the trunk. If the concern is animals and mechanical work, and you want the trunk to stay ventilated and in the light, the mesh model. The height is chosen according to the size of the young plant and the local wildlife: usually, the larger the animal that can reach the tree, the taller the guard should be.
