Tubular netting for fruit and vegetables
Net packaging that holds produce without enclosing it: it ventilates, shows the product and is one of the most economical formats per kilo packed.
Tubular netting is net packaging that holds fruit or vegetables without sealing them in. Its open structure is what makes it useful: produce keeps respiring after harvest and gives off heat and moisture, and in a closed pack that moisture ends up as condensation and mould. Netting prevents this by design, lets the shopper see the produce and costs very little per unit packed.
We work with two families. Plastic netting, made of polyethylene, offers high strength with a soft finish and is made in two ways: extruded, as a continuous tube, light and very fast on the machine; or raschel, knitted from interlaced threads, stronger and more elastic for heavy formats. Compostable netting is made from cellulose and is composted at the end of its life: it is the option for organic lines and markets with restrictions on plastic, and we keep it in stock in the usual formats.
The format is chosen according to the packing system, not the produce. Tubular reels feed the netting machine and give the lowest cost per unit with minimal trimming. Pre-cut bags, with or without drawstring, are filled and closed by hand with no investment. Rolls for manual cutting are the middle ground when pack size changes often. The MEN110 and REK 140 netting machines work with both knitted and extruded netting.
The width depends on the diameter of the produce and the weight of the final pack, and colour is not just about looks: it affects how the fruit is perceived on the shelf. For citrus and for potatoes and onions we have dedicated pages with the criteria for each case. Netting can be custom printed with your brand, subject to a minimum production quantity, and the closure can carry a tie label or identification label.
We keep the most popular formats and colours in stock, with delivery in 24-72 hours; special widths, specific colours or printing are made to order. At Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team of more than 30 years in the sector, we send you a sample to try on your produce; calibre, width and lead time are confirmed with our sales team.

Frequently asked questions
Extruded or raschel netting?
Extruded netting is light, economical and very fast on a netting machine, ideal for consumer formats. Knitted raschel netting is stronger, stretches more and copes better with heavy bags and intensive handling.
Do you have compostable netting?
Yes, made from cellulose, with the usual formats in stock and the rest made to order. Ask for a sample and we will send you the technical data sheet for the specific format.
Can I request samples before buying?
Yes, and we recommend it: it is the only way to check calibre, colour and hold on your own fruit. Tell us the produce, format and colour and we will send them to you.
