The challenge
Every customer of a fruit packhouse asks for its own format. Some want the fruit in a film-wrapped tray, ready for the shelf; others, in a punnet or basket with net and label. When both formats are prepared by hand, packing becomes the bottleneck of the warehouse right at the peaks of the season.
The goal of this project was to gain efficiency, performance and product presentation at the end of the line, with two automatic packing methods working in the same building.
The MARFONT solution
MARFONT, the machinery division of Fontanet Group, installed two packing lines fed from the same packhouse. This is how it looks in the video:
Flowpack line
- Infeed. The trays of fruit move along guided channels to the wrapper, always in single file and at a steady pace.
- Flowpack wrapping. The wrapper takes the film from the reel and seals each tray in its own pack.
- Labelling. At the outfeed, an automatic labeller applies the label to each pack on the conveyor.
- Accumulation. The finished packs arrive at a rotary table, where they are collected for boxing.
Netting line
- Punnet infeed. The punnets filled with fruit enter the netting machine on the conveyor.
- Netting. The machine wraps each punnet in tubular net and closes it.
- Identification. Each unit leaves with its printed label, ready for the customer and for traceability.
The result
- Two automatic packing methods, flowpack and netting, working in the same warehouse.
- A presentation format for each customer: a film-wrapped tray or a netted punnet.
- Every unit leaves labelled, without going through a manual labelling table.
- A steady packing pace, even at the peaks of the season.
- A uniform, well-finished product presentation in every unit.
