Reinforced HDPE edge protector

The reinforced edge protector is the plastic version of the pallet edge protector. It is placed on the corner of the load, under the strapping or film, and does the same job as the cardboard one: it protects the edge against impacts and deformation and spreads the pressure of the securing so that it does not damage the goods. The difference lies in the material and, above all, in the kind of loop it is designed for.

It is made from HDPE, high-density polyethylene, recycled and recyclable. In our catalogue it also appears as a reinforced PVC edge protector, but the material of the piece we supply is HDPE. Its ribbed design gives it far greater rigidity and strength than cardboard, so it is not crushed by well-tensioned strapping and does not lose its shape when knocked by a forklift. It also improves the stability of the whole load when stretch film or strapping is applied.

Its logic is the opposite of the cardboard edge protector. The cardboard one leaves with the pallet and is recycled at destination; the reinforced one is designed to stay and come back. It pays off with heavy loads and in closed loops, such as deliveries to your own shops, fixed routes or returnable packaging, where the same piece makes many trips and its cost is spread across all of them. In an export shipment that does not return it makes no sense, because it is lost on the first trip.

Its limits should be borne in mind. It cannot be cut at destination like cardboard, it weighs more per unit and it does not allow the customisation of size, colour and printing that the cardboard edge protector does. In return, with its long service life, its environmental argument is reuse: a piece that makes many trips can come out better than cardboard thrown away with every shipment. It is with steel or polyester strapping on heavy loads that its strength shows most.
