Steel strapping
Strapping for the most demanding loads: machinery, industrial materials and heavy pallets that cannot allow even a centimetre of play.
Steel strapping is the top tier of the strapping family. Where polypropylene and polyester stretch, steel does not give: its rigidity and breaking strength make it the solution for heavy, bulky industrial loads or loads with a lot of weight concentrated on a small base. It is the strapping for machinery, metal profiles, coils and building materials.
It is designed for highly demanding transport and storage applications. It withstands tension, impacts and repeated handling in logistics without breaking, and keeps the load firm even through several unloadings, stowings or transshipments. For loads secured on skids or wooden pallets, it also ties the goods to the base with a rigidity that plastic strapping cannot provide.
The other side of that rigidity is that steel does not adapt to the load. If the load settles during the journey, the strap does not recover as polyester does, so it is best applied to loads that are already compact and stable. It has sharp edges, so it is handled with gloves, and edge protectors are practically essential on the edges of the goods: they protect the product from cuts and spread the pressure. For damp or outdoor environments, the finish of the strapping matters.
Before choosing steel, it is worth asking whether the load really needs it. Many heavy loads are now handled with polyester strapping, which is lighter, carries no risk of cuts and does not rust. Steel is still irreplaceable when the load is extreme, when it has edges that would cut plastic strapping or when maximum holding strength is required. It is supplied in different widths, thicknesses and finishes depending on the application.
At Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team of more than 30 years in the sector, we advise you so that your load is secured properly, neither under- nor over-specified. Tell us what goods you strap and how they travel, and our sales team will confirm the width, thickness and finish.
Advantages
- Maximum holding strength. For heavy loads that plastic strapping cannot withstand.
- Rigidity. It does not stretch: the load stays firm on its base.
- Stands up to logistics. Withstands tension, impacts and repeated handling.
- Safe in transport. Keeps the load secured through unloading, stowing and transshipment.
- Tailored to the application. Different widths, thicknesses and finishes.

Frequently asked questions
When do I need steel strapping?
When the load is very heavy, has edges that would cut plastic strapping or needs maximum holding rigidity, as with machinery, profiles or coils. For many loads that are heavy but compact, polyester is enough.
Does steel strapping damage the goods?
It can mark or cut them if it rests directly on the edges. That is why edge protectors are recommended: they protect the product and spread the pressure of the strap.
Which finish should I choose?
It depends on where the load will be: humidity, outdoors or long-term storage. Tell us the conditions and the sales team will recommend the right finish and thickness.
