Packaging tape with solvent adhesive
High instant tack and great strength for the boxes that other tapes cannot keep closed: cold, damp and recycled cardboard.
If your boxes arrive open and the tape looks fine, the problem is almost always the adhesive. Solvent is the one we use for demanding conditions: cold stores, damp warehouses and difficult surfaces such as recycled cardboard, where other adhesives tend to lose their grip. It offers high instant tack and strength designed for when the seal must not fail.
The difference from its sister tapes is best understood by the type of box. Acrylic is the versatile one, which we recommend for standard smooth cardboard and long-term storage. Hot melt sticks very quickly on clean cardboard at normal temperature and suits high-speed lines. Solvent is the one you choose when conditions are bad: cold, damp or recycled cardboard. It is not that one is better than another, but that each performs best on its own ground.
That is why it is common in the fruit and vegetable and food sectors, where boxes go through cold storage, and in companies that work with recycled cardboard for cost reasons or as a sustainability policy. Our standard polypropylene tape with solvent adhesive is suitable for light packages of up to 20 kg and is resistant to UV rays and ageing.
It is available for manual use and for case sealers. For manual use, the usual short roll is 66 metres; for machines, the long roll is usually 900 to 1,000 metres, with a standard 76 mm core. According to our product sheet, it is best applied with a case sealer at above +10 ºC, pressing lightly on the tape without stretching it, because stretched tape tends to shrink back and performs worse on the box.
At Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca), we have more than 30 years in packaging. Tell us what cardboard you use, where the boxes are stored and which applicator or machine you close them with, and our sales team will confirm the available format and colour.

Frequently asked questions
Which tape should I use in a cold store?
Solvent adhesive tape, designed for cold and damp. Hot melt copes less well with those conditions.
Why does tape come unstuck on recycled cardboard?
Because it is a difficult surface for many adhesives. Solvent offers high instant tack on that cardboard; also apply it with light pressure and without stretching the tape.
Is there solvent tape for case sealers?
Yes, it is available for manual and automatic use. Tell us your machine model and we will confirm width, length and core.
