Manual case sealer: packaging tape dispenser

What the sector calls a manual case sealer is actually a hand dispenser. It holds the roll of packaging tape, guides it over the box with light pressure and cuts it with the serrated blade at the end of the strip. Its sheet highlights three things: precise manual tensioning, a quick, clean cut and an ergonomic, robust design. According to our packaging tape data sheet, it takes tapes up to 50 mm wide and has an adjustable brake.

The brake is the part that makes the difference compared with closing boxes by pulling the roll by hand. It regulates the resistance with which the tape comes off, so the strip stays taut without stretching or wrinkling, and the closure holds. The data sheet recommends applying light pressure to the tape, without stretching it. The handle is designed for intensive use throughout the working day.

It is used with hand-format packaging tape: a short roll, usually 66 metres, on a 76 mm core, the standard that fits most dispensers. It can be polypropylene, kraft or custom tape printed with your logo. Standard polypropylene tape is ideal for light parcels of up to 20 kg.

It is the right tool for low or medium volumes, below around 100 boxes a day as a guide, and for packing stations with very varied formats. When volume grows, the dispenser starts to hold the line back: closures at different paces, crooked strips and one person doing nothing but closing boxes. That is the moment to move up to the semi-automatic case sealer, which seals top and bottom in a single pass.
