Cardboard bussel lid

The bussel (from the English bushel) is the cardboard fruit export box, deeper than the standard box and designed to move volume at the lowest logistics cost per kilo. Fontanet supplies it in two separate parts: the base, which is the bottom of the box, and the bussel lid, which is the top part that closes it.

The lid fits over the base once the layers of fruit are complete, and it does three jobs. It protects the top layer from handling and dust. It bears the weight of the boxes stacked on top once the pallet is built, so its structure has a direct effect on load stability. And it is the most visible face of the box on arrival at destination, so it also carries the shipper's image.

According to its data sheet, the bussel box optimises logistics space and cuts storage and shipping costs, has a strong structure that protects the fruit during handling and distribution, makes for safe stacking with better pallet stability and offers good ventilation, which helps preserve product quality in cold storage and in transit. It is a solution designed for export and for fruit and vegetable packhouses.
