LD-200 rotating turntable stretch wrapper

The LD-200 is a rotating turntable stretch wrapper: the forklift sets the pallet down on the table, the turntable rotates and the film carriage travels up the mast, wrapping the load in a spiral of stretch film. It is the most widespread approach to automatic wrapping and, for many warehouses, the first machine to replace wrapping by hand.

What makes the difference in consumption is the 200 % powered pre-stretch: the carriage stretches the film before applying it, so every metre of the reel covers considerably more surface than with manual wrapping. In practice, compared with wrapping by hand, film consumption falls by 30 to 40 %, and the tension no longer depends on the operator. It takes both pre-stretched film and conventional machine film.

The cycle is controlled by a PLC with a control panel on the mast itself, from which the wrapping programmes are set: reinforcement wraps at the bottom and top, number of layers and overlap. A height photocell detects where the load ends, so the carriage rises only as far as needed and the wrap comes out the same on pallets of different heights.

When should you choose a turntable rather than a rotary arm or a robot? A turntable needs stable, medium-weight loads, because the pallet has to rotate. If the load is very heavy, badly stacked or cannot be moved, a rotary arm stretch wrapper is the better fit, as the pallet stays still. If you wrap at several points in the warehouse or at the loading bay, a mobile robot saves bringing the load to the machine. A turntable, on the other hand, is installed without building work, needs just a power socket and takes up little space.
