Moulded pulp trays for fruit

Moulded fibre punnets from 200 g to 1 kg for berries and delicate fruit: they manage moisture, can be printed with your design and are compostable.

Moulded pulp is not folded like cardboard: it is formed in a mould from fibre in suspension. That allows curved walls, reinforcing ribs and embossed bases that give rigidity to a very light tray. And it has an advantage that is not obvious but proves decisive in the cold store: the fibre absorbs free water and releases it little by little, so it prevents condensation sitting against the produce, which causes stains and mould.

Our range of UniTray punnets is designed for berries and small fruit, and is organised by capacity. The 200 and 250 g punnets are the lightest, at 11 and 12 g per unit. The 300 g one is lower and more elongated, at 190x115x38 mm. The 380 and 400 g punnets are almost square and shallow, and the 400T offers the same capacity with more height, 70 mm. For large formats there is the 500 g punnet, at 185x110x65 mm and 25 g, and the 1 kg one, at 290x180x70 mm and 45 g.

Compared with a cardboard tray, moulded pulp is better at managing moisture and fits the produce more closely, but it takes up more space in the warehouse because it does not travel flat, but stacked. Compared with plastic, it loses transparency and does not allow the same leak-tight sealing, but it gives a natural product image and its end of life is simpler: it is recycled with paper and is compostable under industrial conditions.

The logistics have been worked out. The 500 g punnet is supplied on an 800x1200x2600 mm pallet with 7,560 units unpressed, in boxes of 360, or 10,080 pressed, in boxes of 480. The 1 kg punnet comes at 3,380 units per pallet, in boxes of 65. In addition, the tray can be printed with your design directly on the pack, with examples featuring strawberry, blueberry and raspberry on the product sheet itself.

Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team of more than 30 years in the sector, helps you choose the capacity for your produce and your box, and sends you samples before you finalise the season. Frequently asked questions

What capacities are there?

The UniTray range goes from 200 g to 1 kg: 200, 250, 300, 380, 400 (shallow and deep), 500 and 1,000 g. Tell us the retail weight of your produce and we will point you to the reference.

Moulded pulp or cardboard?

Moulded pulp handles cold store moisture better and is compostable, but takes up more warehouse space. Cardboard travels flat and prints in more detail. We have both.

Can they be printed?

Yes, the tray can be printed with your design directly on the pack. Minimums depend on the format and the design: check with the sales team.
