Packaging nails

Steel nails for building pallets, crates and wooden packaging, loose or ready for pneumatic nailers.

The nail is the basic joint in wooden packaging: pallets, crates, cages, chocks and load reinforcements. It looks like a minor consumable, but it determines whether a pallet can bear the weight and handling without the boards coming loose. A nail that does not grip or bends as it goes in translates into pallets that fall apart on the loading dock and loads that shift in the lorry.

We supply nails in two presentations depending on how they are driven. Loose, for manual nailing or occasional repairs. And ready for nailers, which is the norm in production: in coils, with the nails joined by wire and wound, or in strips, lined up on a carrier. Coils and strips are not interchangeable: each pneumatic nailer takes one format and one type of collation, so the starting point is always the machine.

They are made from industrial-grade steel, with high mechanical strength for demanding applications. The quality of the steel shows in use: the nail goes in straight, does not bend when it passes through a knot in the wood and keeps the joint firm over time, even when the wood dries out and moves. On a pallet assembly line, a uniform nail also prevents jams and nailer stoppages.

The choice of length and gauge depends on the thickness of the pieces being joined and the stress the joint will bear. As a general rule in the sector, the nail has to pass through the top piece and penetrate far enough into the bottom one for the joint not to open. A heavy-load pallet calls for longer, thicker nails than a light crate. The nails are supplied in different lengths and gauges, and can also be used to fix other materials besides wood.

At Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team with more than 30 years in the sector, we help you choose the nail that fits your nailer and your packaging. Tell us your nailer model and what you are building, and our sales team will confirm the format, length and gauge.
