Hand sanitiser gel dispenser

Waterless hand hygiene at any workstation: automatic or manual dispensing of hand sanitiser gel at entrances and in common areas.

Not every spot in a plant has a sink nearby. At the visitor entrance, the loading dock, the office area, canteens or halfway along a packing line, asking staff to go and wash their hands every time they change task is not realistic. A hand sanitiser gel dispenser takes hand hygiene to those spots: the gel is applied without water, rubbed in until dry and the person goes back to work.

There are two ways of dispensing. With a manual dispenser, the user presses a push button or a lever. With an automatic one, a sensor detects the hand and releases the dose without contact, which stops the dispenser itself from becoming a surface everyone touches. Floor-standing models, like the one in the picture, can be placed anywhere without needing a wall and have a drip tray; wall-mounted models save space in corridors and entrances.

Gel does not replace washing with soap and water, it complements it. It is effective for hands that are visibly clean, but it does not remove soil, fruit juice or grease: with dirty hands you have to go to the sink. That is why the usual approach is to combine soap dispensers at washing points with gel dispensers at entrances, in common areas and at intermediate workstations.

Location makes the difference between a dispenser that gets used and one that gets ignored. Place it along the natural route: right at the entrance to the handling area, at visitor reception, next to clocking-in terminals, canteens or doorways, and clearly visible. And check the refill regularly: an empty dispenser sends exactly the opposite message to the one intended.

Frequently asked questions

Automatic or manual dispenser?

The automatic one releases the dose with a sensor and avoids touching the unit, ideal at busy entrances. The manual one is simpler and needs no power supply.

Does gel replace hand washing?

No, it complements it. It works on visibly clean hands; if they are dirty with soil, fruit or grease, they must be washed with soap and water.

Where is the best place to put it?

Along the natural route staff take: the entrance to handling areas, visitor reception, canteens, clocking-in terminals and doorways.
