Plastic fruit trays for citrus and oranges

Trays with individual cavities to present oranges, mandarins, lemons or grapefruit piece by piece, when citrus is sold on quality.

A large share of citrus is sold loose or in nets, and there are dedicated packing solutions for that. But when the fruit is sold on quality (a selected dessert orange, a top-grade mandarin or a grapefruit for a premium shelf), the tray changes the presentation: every piece aligned in its cavity, with no rubbing, of the same calibre and in full view of the buyer.

Citrus is round fruit, and the round cavity of the tray holds it well. Orange peel is tougher than the skin of stone fruit, but continuous rubbing during transport and handling still marks it, and pieces that move inside the box arrive looking worse. Separating each piece prevents that damage and means the box reaches its destination just as it left.

In plastic, there are two options. Polypropylene (PP) is tough, does not deform with the humidity of the cold store and can be washed and reused. rPET, or recycled PET, is stiff at low thickness and offers a more polished presentation: in clear it shows the whole fruit, and in black the orange and yellow stand out through contrast. It also meets specifications that require recycled material.

The calibre of citrus varies widely between species and varieties, from mandarins to grapefruit, so the number of cavities and the box format are defined case by case. We do not work from a generic table: tell us which species and what average calibre you pack and we will suggest the right reference. If your citrus goes in nets, we also have the net and the netting machines to pack it.

From Fraga (Huesca) we supply packhouses across mainland Spain and send you a physical sample before you order. The available references, with their thickness, format and number of cavities, are confirmed by our sales team.

Advantages

  • Quality presentation. Every piece aligned in its cavity: the look of selected fruit.
  • No rubbing in transit. The fruit does not move inside the box or get marked by rubbing.
  • Instant count. The number of cavities sets the number of pieces per box.
  • PP or rPET. Strength and reuse, or recycled material with more shelf presence.
  • Reference matched to calibre. Cavities and format defined for your species and variety.

Yes, when citrus is sold on quality and presentation: selected dessert fruit, top grade or a premium shelf. For loose sale, net is usually the option.

Which calibre and how many cavities?

It depends on the species and variety, from mandarins to grapefruit. Tell us what you pack and your average calibre, or send us a sample, and we will suggest the reference.

Do you also have net for citrus?

Yes. We have packing net and netting machines, such as the KUK-900, designed for citrus, potato and onion packhouses.
