PP plastic trays for flat peaches
Polypropylene trays with a wide, shallow cavity, designed for the flattened shape of flat peaches and flat nectarines.
The flat peach is a stone fruit with a flattened shape and very delicate skin. That shape means it does not sit well in a standard tray for round fruit: in a deep, narrow cavity the piece rests on its edge, tilts and bruises right on the shoulder. That is why it needs a tray of its own, with a wider, shallower hollow and a flat seat where the fruit rests fully.
In polypropylene (PP), that tray brings resistance to moisture and handling: it does not soften in cold storage, it is non-absorbent and it cleans easily if a very ripe piece leaks juice, which is common with stone fruit at the end of the season. It also withstands washing and disinfection, so it can be reused in returnable circuits.
As an indicative reference, flat peaches run in calibres from 55 to 70 mm. In a 60x40 box the usual configurations range from 24 to 30 cavities, and in a 50x30 box from 15 to 20. The same flattened geometry works for flat nectarines. Before placing the order it is worth measuring the fruit from the current season, because the average calibre shifts from year to year.
The flat peach is one of the fruits where moulded pulp also works very well, thanks to its ability to absorb moisture and juice. If your customer asks for plastic-free or compostable packaging, we have moulded pulp trays made specifically for flat peaches. If what matters most is resistance in cold storage and reuse, PP is the option. We help you decide based on destination and specification.
We are in Fraga (Huesca), in the heart of the Ebro valley stone fruit area, and we know the flat peach season from the inside. We send you a physical sample so you can test the fit with your fruit. The available references, and the thickness and colour of each one, are confirmed by our sales team.
Advantages
- A cavity for flattened fruit. Wide and shallow: the flat peach rests fully on its base, not on its edge.
- Fewer marks on the shoulder. The piece does not tilt, so it does not bruise on its most visible area.
- Does not absorb juice. A quick rinse cleans it when a ripe piece leaks juice.
- Stable in cold storage. Polypropylene does not deform with humidity or cold.
- Also for flat nectarines. The same flattened geometry works with other flat stone fruit.

Frequently asked questions
Why do flat peaches need a dedicated tray?
Because of their flattened shape. In a cavity designed for round fruit they rest on the edge, tilt and bruise. The wide, shallow cavity lets them sit fully in place.
PP or moulded pulp for flat peaches?
Moulded pulp absorbs moisture and juice and is compostable, and it is widely requested for plastic-free export. PP stands up better to humidity in cold storage and can be reused. We have both and will advise you based on your destination.
Which flat peach calibre does it take?
As a guide, from 55 to 70 mm, with 24 to 30 cavities in a 60x40 box. The average calibre changes between seasons: send us a sample and we will tell you the exact reference.
