Bubble wrap rolls for packaging

Film with air bubbles on a roll that cushions knocks, vibration and rubbing so fragile products arrive in one piece.

Bubble wrap is the most recognisable cushioning material in packaging, and for a practical reason: its cellular structure, with sealed air pockets, absorbs the energy of an impact before it reaches the product. Where paper or cardboard passes the impact on, bubble wrap spreads and cushions it. That is why it is the go-to option for glass, ceramics, electronics, spare parts and any item that cannot survive a fall.

As well as one-off knocks, bubble wrap protects against what does the most damage in real transport: the continuous vibration of the lorry and rubbing between items inside the box. One layer of bubble wrap stops two objects touching and prevents the surface being marked over many kilometres. It is light, so it adds protective volume without adding to the weight of the shipment, and flexible, so it adapts to irregular shapes without having to be cut to size.

It is supplied on a roll and used by cutting the required length at the packing bench. It is available in different widths, lengths and bubble diameters. Small bubbles suit light items and delicate surfaces better; large bubbles give more cushioning travel for heavy or very fragile objects. The choice depends on the weight of the item, its fragility and how it travels: a single parcel sent by courier is not the same as a box grouped on a pallet.

Compared with its sister products in the range, the standard bubble wrap roll is the option with maximum cushioning at the lowest weight. If you need more tear resistance or a paper finish, there is kraft bubble wrap; if you want to protect polished surfaces from scratches with a thinner material, foam; and for edges and corners, foam profile. Many shipments combine bubble wrap for wrapping and loose fill for filling gaps.

At Fontanet Group, in Fraga (Huesca), with a team that has spent more than 30 years in the packaging sector, we help you choose the protective material for your product and the way you ship it. Tell us what you send and how, and our sales team will confirm the available width, length and type of bubble.

Frequently asked questions

What bubble diameter do I need?

It depends on the weight and fragility of the item. Small bubbles work better for light objects and delicate surfaces; large bubbles give more cushioning for heavy items. We advise you with a sample of your product.

Bubble wrap or foam?

Bubble wrap cushions knocks better; foam is thinner and designed mainly to protect surfaces from rubbing and scratches. If your product is fragile, bubble wrap; if its surface is delicate, foam.

What is the difference from kraft bubble wrap?

Kraft bubble wrap has kraft paper on the outside: it is more tear-resistant and has a paper finish. Standard bubble wrap is clear and lighter.
