Box base pads
A sheet at the bottom of the box that reinforces the pack and leaves the product resting on a smooth, clean surface.
A box base pad is a sheet placed on the inside bottom of the box before it is filled. It performs two complementary functions: it reinforces the pack, because it adds rigidity to the base, which is the part that works hardest when the box is lifted, stacked or double-stacked; and it protects the product, because it gives it a smooth surface to rest on instead of the joints, staples or slats of the box itself.
During transport, the pad protects the goods from knocks and pressure, prevents rubbing between the products and the packaging and adds stability to the whole unit. That is why it is common in export boxes, in wooden or cardboard boxes that travel loaded and, in general, in any box whose contents mark easily. The catalogue sheet shows an operator placing one in a box during packing.
The material is strong and recyclable, and it is supplied in different formats and sizes to fit the bottom of each box. The sheet shows pads in cream, white and kraft tones; which grade and finish are best depends on whether the pad will be seen by the end customer, whether the product is moist and how much weight the box carries.
It is worth telling it apart from its siblings. The base pad works inside the box, under the product. The bin liner does the same job but in the bulk container, and honeycomb board is the high-compression material for pallet-scale support. The top sheet, on the other hand, closes the box from above. In many fruit packs the base pad and the top sheet are used together.
To get it right, we need the internal dimensions of your box, the product it carries and how much it weighs when full. At Fontanet Group, from Fraga (Huesca) and with a team that has more than 30 years in the sector, we advise you on choosing format and grade. Check with our sales team.
