Foam profile for edge protection
U and L foam profiles that fit over the edge of the item to protect it from knocks and scuffs in transport and handling.
Edges and corners are the most exposed part of almost any product: they are the first thing to hit the floor if it falls, what rubs against the box and what gets marked when one item is leant against another. Foam profile is designed precisely for that. Instead of wrapping the whole item, a foam profile is fitted only on the edges, which is where the knocks are concentrated.
There are two shapes. The U profile wraps around the edge of boards, doors, glass, mirrors, frames or metal sheets: the item slots into the U and is protected on both sides and along the edge. The L profile, such as the U-75 PLUS format, protects corners and 90-degree edges. The catalogue sheet lists the formats U-15, U-25, U-30, U-35, U-45, U-60, U-70, U-70/120, U-80, U-90 and U-100, each with its inner width, height and wall thickness.
Choosing the right format is the key. The inner gap has to match the thickness of the item so that the profile stays in place without tape, or with very little; if it is loose, it comes off during handling, and if it is too tight, it is hard to fit and may split. The practical approach is to measure the real thickness of the edge and compare it with the dimensions of each reference, which we provide, or to send us a sample.
It differs from cardboard or PVC edge protectors in its function: an edge protector adds rigidity and spreads the pressure of strapping or film at the corners of the pallet, whereas foam profile cushions and protects the finish of the individual item. Compared with a foam roll, it protects only where needed, with less material and faster work on the line. It is light, flexible and reduces damage and incidents.
At Fontanet Group, in Fraga (Huesca), with a team that has spent more than 30 years in the packaging sector, we help you choose the protective material for your product and the way you ship it. We send you the dimensions of each format and confirm which one fits the thickness of your item.

Frequently asked questions
Which profile format do I need?
The one with an inner gap that matches the thickness of your item. Measure the edge and we will tell you which reference fits; if in doubt, send us a sample.
When do I use the L profile?
To protect corners and 90-degree edges, where a U cannot be fitted. In the range it is the U-75 PLUS format.
Does it replace pallet edge protectors?
No. A cardboard or PVC edge protector reinforces the corners of the pallet against strapping and film; foam profile protects the edge of each item. They can be used together.
