Pear-shaped PP plastic trays for pears

Polypropylene trays with a pear-shaped cavity, deeper on one side, so the pear is held by its body and the neck does not touch its neighbour.

A pear is not shaped like an apple, and a round tray does not hold it the same way. Its body is wide at the bottom and narrow at the top, and the stalk sticks out: in a cavity designed for round fruit the piece tilts, the neck leans against the fruit next to it and a bruise appears exactly where the buyer looks first. The pear-shaped tray solves this with a cavity that is deeper on one side, cradling the body of the pear and keeping the neck aligned and separated.

Made from thermoformed polypropylene (PP), it is a tough tray: it does not deform with the humidity of the cold store, withstands washing and disinfection and can be reused. That is a real advantage with pears, which spend long periods in cold storage before going to market and are packed for many months after harvest.

It suits the varieties common in our area (Conference, Blanquilla and Williams), each with its own calibre. As an indicative starting point, pears run between 55 and 75 mm, with Conference usually between 55 and 70 mm and Blanquilla between 60 and 75 mm. In a 60x40 box the usual configurations range from 24 to 30 cavities. In any case, what counts is the real average calibre of your crop, which varies between orchards and between harvests.

Placing every pear in the same orientation also brings order to the box: all the pieces face the same way, counting is instant and the box opens up looking like selected produce. If you work with the bussel export box, the equivalent piece is the Traypack Cargo, which goes in layers inside the box.

From Fraga (Huesca) we supply packhouses, cooperatives and handling plants throughout the Ebro area, with a team that has more than 30 years in the sector. We send you a physical sample so you can check the fit with your pears before ordering. For the thickness, weight and number of cavities of each reference, ask our sales team.

Advantages

  • A cavity shaped for pears. Deeper on one side: the body sits in place and the neck stays aligned and clear of the next piece.
  • Fewer marks on the neck. The stalk does not press against the neighbouring fruit, which is where pears usually bruise.
  • Built for cold storage. Polypropylene does not soften with humidity during long periods in cold storage.
  • Reusable. It withstands washing and disinfection, useful in returnable circuits.
  • A tidy box. Every piece in the same position: instant counting and better presentation.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a round tray not suitable for pears?

Because a pear tilts in a round cavity and its neck ends up leaning on the neighbouring piece. The pear-shaped cavity, deeper on one side, seats the body and keeps the neck aligned, which is where pears usually bruise.

Which calibre should I order for Conference or Blanquilla?

As a guide, Conference usually runs between 55 and 70 mm and Blanquilla between 60 and 75 mm. The average calibre changes between orchards and harvests: tell us yours or send us a sample and we will adjust the reference.

Do you also have the tray for the bussel box?

Yes. For the bussel export box the piece is the Traypack Cargo, which is placed in layers inside the box. We have a dedicated page on the Traypack Cargo for pears.
